• 20230418 - Return to the Scene of the (Crime?)

Whole year? Impossible! Actually there were a couple of visits that did not get logged, mainly because they were too painful! However, today I returned, found a push broom, swept up a year's worth of detritus from other projects and maybe an eighth of an inch of dust on the poor old Singer. It was painfully obvious where I left the project last year: disassembly of the intake and exhaust manifolds, all gaskets and bolts. All of this after I had tried to tighten things down to fix the leaks and only succeeded in snapping one of the bolts which firmly lodged into the block. It was a miracle, but Brad was able to extract the bolt fragment, and after a month or so I was able to order replacement bolts from British Fasteners which sat on my workbench at home reviling me for almost a year.

So, today I took those bolts, used Brad's super cut off tool and my manual file to resize the length of the bolts which hold on the metal housing at the front of the engine which delivers coolant. Brad and I decided to use sealant on both sides of the main gasket against the block to make sure that rust and warpage would be handled this time as the components got bolted back onto the block.

The one nut closest to the driver we couldn't reach. When I return, I will have to remove the negative terminal connection from the battery union in order to get a straight shot at this nut with a socket.
