Peekskill & Goodbye

Everyday we looked at house projects, fiddled with them a bit and then went off on adventures. Today it was concluded that given the tools and the wear on their 200 year-old clock, I was not going to be able to fix it. Sadness…

Richard and I could, however, do something about the closet door in his studio which was refusing to close. Naturally, it wasn’t as simple as it originally appeared, but we persevered and mutually were permitted to wear the Supermen shirts by lunchtime.

Lunch was had at RameNesque in downtown Peekskill - quiet, tasty and so appropriate as our romp through NY and NJ was winding down.

After lunch we took dessert and the camera for a gentle stroll out to the end of the local pier. You can just barely see the city of Peekskill across the water on this gorgeous day.  Afternoon naps, some packing up, the wine flag ceremony and great lasagna from the freezer sent us to bed early since we were due back at the Westchester Airport at 5 a.m.!!!

Best Laid Plans…

The alarms went off at 3:30 a.m., but we had slept through the one American Airlines sent at 11:39 p.m. the previous night warning us that our flight had been cancelled due to bad weather in Chicago.

Yikes!! The only other flight leaving White Plains would put us into Denver (not Colorado Springs) at midnight. So, all of us got on digital devices and the not-so-smartphones waiting on hold for a human response for 48 minutes. Due to the many cancellations, alternative flights were quickly filling up, and we finally opted for one leaving out of La Guardia at 10:15 a.m.

Richard and Meredith quickly helped load bags, and off we sprinted for the train into Grand Central where we planned to catch a shuttle to the airport.

The train was on time, however, the shuttle was not to leave until 11. Ever resourceful, Meredith summoned a fabulous Uber driver in minutes, and we where whisked to La Guardia in plenty of time. Meredith gets the shirt.

Goodbye, New York.

MANY hours later after a transfer in Dallas, we arrived in Denver where our other lovely daughter dropped her plans and drove us to Colorado Springs! She deserves much more than a Superwoman shirt!

Goodbye, kids and goodbye to another wonderful travel experience!

A farewell Hudson River sunset by Meredith.
